About me

Joanna is a ceramic artist with over 30 years' experience as a maker and 10 years’ experience leading creative workshops in community, education, and care settings. Her studio practice is grounded in clay, with drawing playing a role as a thinking tool and a way of sustaining regular creative attention and wellbeing.

Alongside her studio practice, Joanna designs and delivers inclusive, process-led workshops for people of all ages. Her workshops support older adults experiencing isolation at lunch club sessions, the mental wellbeing of adults through arts-for-wellbeing programmes and children's emotional wellbeing and motor skills through clay clubs, creative holiday clubs and enrichment days.

How I started

Joanna has been making drawings and clay pieces since childhood.  She began working with ceramics at the age of 9 at a Saturday morning Clay Club — led by Bristol potter Vivica Hunter. She completed Art O and A levels and went on to Bath Academy of Art, to do an Arts Foundation Course in 1984.  Continuing at Bath Academy of Art, she graduated with a BA Hons in Ceramics in 1987.
